Interview with Manuel Torres, Lead Bioskills Technician at Viticus Group

Our Bioskills technicians are dedicated members of our team, ready to assist during all events we have at our facility. Manuel Torres, a Lead Bioskills Technicians at Viticus Group, provides more insight on the day-to-day tasks as a successful technician at our organization.

Q: Could you please give us a brief introduction like your name and position?
Manuel:  I’m Manuel Torres, I’m the lead Bioskills Technician here at Viticus Group.

Q: How long have you been with the company?
Manuel: I’ve been here for nine and a half years, going on ten in November.

Q: Could you explain what a lead Bioskills lab technician is responsible for on a daily basis?
Manuel: Lead Bioskills Technicians are responsible for a lot of things, but I broke it down into three sections as specimens, personnel, and equipment. So, our donors are very important and once they’re on our property, maintaining a good chain of custody is pretty much a priority to us. Personnel, of course, the team, our members is a top priority as well. And a client’s equipment, we take care of it like it’s our own.

Q: What types of training do you do on the job? And what type of training do you provide to your team?
Manuel: The type of training I did is participate in the ABLE Bioskills training, they showed us pretty much the basics, like counting, suturing, instrumentation, basic instruments. As far as on the job, it’s all based on experience. So based on how long you’ve been here and how repetitive you do it.

Q: What’s the most challenging part of the job?
Manuel: The most challenging part of the job. That was a tough question. It’s turning off the dedication that we have to our clients. When I go home or just at any moment in the day, I’m always thinking about how can I make that better? How can I make everybody more comfortable?

Q: What’s your most favorite part of your job?
Manuel: The best part of the job is when the course is over and you see that smile on our clients and you know that everything went well. When I shut off the lights, sit down in this beautiful lobby, I just feel accomplished, and everybody’s accomplished after that. That’s my favorite part of the job.
